Case Studies

Case Study 1

A Public School with 400 Students is not currently compliant with State Regulations for monitoring their water system for lead, copper and organic chemical contamination and has problems with lead and copper leaching into their water. The system installed is what we call a “cookie cutter” system. The same components are used for systems that have very different requirements. For example, the same 8 gallon per minute filter is used whether it is a 5 gallon per minute system or a 25 gallon per minute system. The same filter material is used regardless of what needs to (or doesn’t need to) be filtered. We frequently get calls from customers with these types of systems having problems with low water pressure or poor water quality. OPS worked with the local regulators and school maintenance staff to reconfigure an improperly designed treatment system to decrease the corrosiveness of the water and bring the system into proper compliance with all state and county regulations and eliminate lead and copper exposure to students.

Case Study 2

An organic food growing facility utilizes so much water from their municipality that they are being served with notice to reduce their usage. OPS is contacted to work with an engineer familiar with the growing process to design-build a fully automated water recycle system to reuse more than 100,000 gallons of water per day. The system cuts usage of water from the municipality to less than 10% of the original.

Case Study 3

A customer has a well located in the only water bearing region on their property. This area is very remote with no electricity and thus no power to pump the water from the well. The customer doesn’t want to utilize a generator because of the maintenance involved, cost of fuel and environmental factors. They would like to be able to utilize solar power to provide electricity and remotely monitor and monitor their well remotely. OPS designs a pump station, specs a solar system able to meet the demands of the pump station and puts the customer in contact with a source to directly purchase their solar equipment at a great cost savings.
